Major is an Indian film that was released on June 3, 2022, Written by Adivi Sesh Directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka. The film is a Sony Pictures International Productions, G. Mahesh Babu Entertainment and A+S Movies collaboration, the film was released in both Tamil and Hindu language for the audience. Major is a biography of Indian army officer Sandeep Unnikrishnan who was martyred in the 26 November 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai, the film depicts the story before he joined the army and his devotion to serving the nation, it also shows his act of bravery during the terrorist attack when he single-handedly saved the lives of many people with his intelligence.
On IMDB the film has been rated 8.7 out of 9.9K the film has become the seventh highest-grossing Hindi film this year. The Indian Audience has appreciated the script and called the film an excellent tribute to Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. Bollywood has already produced the biographical film Shershaah which was based on the life of Captain Vikram Batra and was released on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video this time Tollywood got this opportunity to bring another brilliant armed force biographical film to screen.

Mahesh Babu Entertainment’s first Hindi release before this their production company has worked on 3 Tamil films starring Mahesh babu himself. After the release of Major, it looks like Mahesh babu is making up his mind to take more Hindi films under his production company however this is just an assumption since the star himself has not given any remarks that confirm this statement. Major was released in theatres on 3 June 2022, the film could have been released a year earlier but due to the pandemic, the shooting was delayed so it was finally released this year. It has been shot in 75 different locations keeping in the mind the diversity of the film within 120 days. Tamil superstar and producer of the film Mahesh Babu promoted the film on his social media and thanked all the cast and crew for their contribution to making this project happen, the trailer of the film was released on 9 May 2022 on sony pictures India’s official youtube channel which has now got 24 million views 663K likes. When the film was released initially everyone was sceptical about whether the film will do well at the box office because the actor and actress are not well known in the industry however, to everyone’s surprise, the film is doing extremely well at the box office right now.

Major Story
The film opens with young Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who was a fan of Commando films since childhood one day his father takes him to the navy parade after seeing the parade for the first time he decides to join the navy when he grows up. The film highlights some of his character traits when he was a child even though he was a kid he always had compassion towards others he never hesitated to save those in need. During his childhood, Major Sandeep’s mother used to take him to the jail where his uncle used to work when Sandeep starts talking to a prisoner and shows him the kindness his mother however gets angry with him for interacting with the prisoner.
One day Sandeep’s mother asks him why he always likes to give a visit to the prison he tells his mother that he is fond of the police uniform. Sandeep meets his first love Isha when he was in high school the two of them find comfort through each other the two of them later start dating. Sandeep applies to join the navy however his application gets rejected in the physical test because of his poor eyesight unknown of the fact that Sandeep is going to join the navy Isha and his family gets dejected to find out about his dream job.
Isha tells him that she does not support his dream job but it’s not like he is going to stop because of one rejection Sandeep then decides to join the Indian army even though his entire family was against it. After serving in the Indian army he gets married to isha and becomes a major and serves in National Security Guards however Sandeep’s duty in the armed forces breaks his marriage and Isha sends him a divorce letter after having a miscarriage. On 26 November 2008 the terrorist attacked the Taj Palace & Tower Major Sandeep and other members of the NSG fought the terrorist and saved the lives of all the survivors who were held captivated by terrorist members inside the luxurious hotel.

The filmmakers chose a main actor and actress who are extremely popular but who can portray the roles of the characters well and understand the story of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan before we know him as the martyred officer during the terrorist attack.
