It follows the eponymous vigilante team as they battle superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities, based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which was originally published by DC Comics under its Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment.

The Boys is set in a world where superhumans are regarded as heroes by the general public and work for Vought International, a powerful corporation that markets and monetizes them. Most of them are arrogant, selfish, and corrupt outside of their heroic personas. The Seven, Vought’s premier superhero team, and the Boys, vigilantes looking to bring down Vought and its fake superheroes, are the main characters of the series.

On July 26, 2019, the first season premiered. The series was renewed for a third season in July 2020, ahead of the second season’s premiere, and was released on June 3, 2022. The series has been nominated for six Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series in 2021, for its writing, storyline, humour, and performances by the cast (particularly Urban and Starr).

In September 2020 and December 2021, two spin-off shows were ordered, the last of which, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, premiered on March 4, 2022.

Hughie Campbell joins the Boys at the start of the series after the superhero A-Train kills his girlfriend while high on drugs. Annie January, a young and hopeful heroine forced to confront the truth about those she admires, joins the Seven elsewhere. The disillusioned Queen Maeve, the insecure Deep, the mysterious Black Noir, and the white supremacist Stormfront are among the Seven. Mother’s Milk, a tactical planner, Frenchie, a weapons specialist, and Kimiko, a superpowered test subject, round out the Boys. A film adaptation of The Boys was in various stages of development at both Columbia Pictures and Paramount Pictures between 2008 and 2016. Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay were in charge of the screenplay, and Adam McKay expressed interest in directing. McKay stated that he would like to cast Russell Crowe as Billy Butcher and Simon Pegg as Hughie, as well as shoot the film in 3D. Shooting Of The Boys

Principal photography for the second season, like the first, took place in Toronto from June 17 to November 13, 2019. The crew filmed Translucent’s funeral ceremony at the Meridian Arts Centre, which is located in Toronto’s North York district. For the scene where the Deep is arrested, the crew filmed at the Wet ‘n’ Wild Toronto Waterpark, with some CGI modifications to recreate the series’ fictional Splash Zone Sandusky park. Filming for the Collective’s church scenes took place at the Scottish Rite Club in Hamilton, Ontario.

The third season’s principal photography took place from February 24 to September 10, 2021.
