Irma Vep is a 1996 cult classic movie adaptation written and directed by Oliver Assayas. The movie was released on 13th November 1996 and has a movie runtime of 97 minutes. The movie received a television adaptation written and directed by the same director and writer, Oliver Asayas, and under the same title. In this article, we’ll be talking about the adaptation and the possibility of a sequel in the future. Erma Vep had its premiere at the Cannes festival in May 2022 and was released on HBO on 6th June 2022. It has a total of 8 episodes with a runtime of approximately one hour each. The 1996 movie storyline revolved around a Hong Kong actress, Maggie Cheung(played by herself), who was hired to play the role of Erma Vep. In the television adaptation, Mira, an American actress is the main protagonist.

The story is based on a movie actress who is disillusioned by her career and recent break up. She comes to France to star in a French silent classic film remake, Les Vampires, as the lead character Irma Vep. Irma Vep is a thief, slick as a Vampire and dresses in a black leather catsuit. The movie’s plot focuses on her dilemma, where she confuses her reality with that of the character she’s playing. The television remake is expected to follow the same plot with a few plot twists during the series. The first episode, “The Severed Head”, received a lot of praise and good reviews. The second episode, “The Ring That Kills”, will broadcast on 13th June, 2022. The episodes will be released on a weekly basis for the whole of June and July. The final and 8th episode, “The Terrible Wedding”, will air on Monday, July 25th, 2022.

Irma Vep Season 2 Release Date

Irma Vep makers and distributors have not released any official statement on a sequel. The series has generated quite a hype for its actors and the story. The original 1996  movie is considered to be a classic and is loved and acknowledged by many worldwide. The television adaptation has not failed to stand up to their expectations, proving its worth for a new season. Although if the series is to follow the flow of the movie, we are less likely to have a sequel, as the series’ end will most probably cover the whole story of the movie. Even if we get a sequel, the story would either be about completely different characters or the same characters but a different story. This idea doesn’t look too profitable for the makers, but who knows, maybe the series will cross imagination boundaries by the end of the series and we can expect and ask for a sequel which is worthwhile being a part of the franchise.
