The makers have decided to end this travel series with its fifth season calling it the final one. In fact, even before the fifth season started streaming, Whitehall put up a post saying “All good things must come to an end”, thereby hinting at the Travels with my Father series season finale. However, neither Whitehall nor Netflix has given any specific reason for the show’s end. If we were to make an assumption, we can probably say that the show came to a natural end. The father-son pair ventured all around the UK, completing a full circle from the first to the final season.

This travel series is a documentary based on Father Michael and his son Jack Whitehall wandering around different cities and countries. Although some people speculate that the series is highly scripted, they still enjoyed watching the witty chemistry between the father and son. We saw them taking us through South East Asia in the first season along with enjoying a meal cooked by Gordon Ramsay and taking a tour of Winston Churchill’s home. We also saw them get into awkward and silly situations which made for great comical timing. The duo became quite successful after the show ran for five seasons with decent ratings all over. Fans would definitely enjoy a renewed season but unfortunately, the show won’t be returning. However, we might see the duo collaborate on other projects as they are definitely a winning match!

The series had a total of five trailers released, for each of the seasons. The seasons always launched with a bang-on trailer that gave us an insight into what this fun duo had for us. And even though they explored different cities and countries, the banter between both of them was seen in all the trailers, making them intriguing enough to look forward to every season. Jack was seen making his father do some silly things that he had never done before and we saw how their opposite personalities often clashed on screen. Apart from the show’s natural end, another reason for its cancellation could be Covid restrictions. When the show announced its final season seven months ago, a lot of countries abroad had extremely strict travel restrictions in effect which might have been a reason why they decided to end their journey.
