Is Bridgerton Worth Watching?

Yes, Bridgeton is worth watching, if you like period dramas, romance, and fancy dresses this just might be the show for you! Bridgerton is a historical costume drama that, with its bubbly language and smouldering sexual tension, even those who despise costume dramas can enjoy. Is it profound? Certainly not, because it places no emphasis on intellectual or psychological aspects of society. There are no profound messages here, just an escape. However, not every story needs to be insightful in order to be enjoyable. It has a large, multicultural ensemble, a lot of snark and fast-talking, and a lot of sex or overt sexual frustration.

Fans of Jane Austen’s books and different interpretations may not like it, but Bridgerton makes the period more accessible to the masses who care more about relationships and character-building than clothing and set design.

Bridgerton Story

Is Bridgerton Worth Watching?

A young woman has only a few opportunities in the domestic sphere before she is classified as a “maiden,” doomed to a lifetime of miserable spinsterhood. Lady Portia Featherington, for example, has all three of her unrefined daughters — Prudence, Philippa, and Penelope — in the marketplace and is especially pushy in marrying them off. Then there’s their next-door neighbours, the Bridgertons. A huge family, led by Lady Violet and oldest son Anthony, are all eager to see their oldest daughter Daphne join the marriage market for the first time. According to Lady Whistledown and others, Daphne will have her choice of suitors, particularly since Queen Charlotte deemed her “pristine” when Daphne was brought to her.

Meanwhile, Simon Basset returns to London and Lady Danbury’s mansion. He is the newly-appointed Duke of Hastings, and he has arrived to liquidate his late father’s business. He is uninterested in the formalities of the dukedom and insists on never marrying. Lady Danbury, on the other hand, insists on him attending the season’s first large ball. During the ball, Anthony is convinced that many of the young men there aren’t suited for her, and she ends up physically stumbling into the duke while fleeing the obnoxious Nigel Berbrooke. Though they act as if they’re irritated with one other, the fireworks are clearly present.

Daphne’s suitors are reduced to a bare minimum as a result of Anthony’s interference and the presence of the enigmatic Marina Thompson at the Featherington estate, as indicated in Lady Whistledown’s newsletter. Lady Bridgerton and Lady Danbury devise a plan to bring Daphne and Simon together, but a family meal at which Simon is the honoured guest does not go well. Also, Anthony, Simon’s old college friend, understands him far too well to believe he’s suited for his sister. Lord Berbrooke, the snivelling suitor, is the only one left.
