Runway 34 is inspired by the true event of a blind landing that happened on August 18, 2015, Jet Airways flight 9W 555 arrived on its scheduled time from Doha to Kochi for its landing at 6 in the morning. But due to rainfall the previous night, the weather was not in the favour of the pilot, lack of visibility made it impossible for the pilot to make its landing at Kochi airport after three unsuccessful attempts the landing could not happen. The pilot decided to divert the flight to Trivandrum, the flight was a Boeing 737-800 after unsuccessful attempts of landing at Trivandrum airport it lost too much fuel and the plane could only fly for 10 minutes. The pilot made the May Day call and did a successful blind landing on its seventh attempt with 150 people on board. The film covers the entire incident along with the trial that the pilot had to go through in order to clear the blind landing incident.
