Somebody Feed Phil is an American travel documentary directed by John Bedolis. It stars Philip Rosenthal (well known for the popular sitcom ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’) as the presenter of the documentary. Somebody feed Phil premiered on 12 January 2018 on Netflix.  The show currently has 4 seasons and 22 episodes in total. Season 2 was released on 6 July 2018, season 3 was released after a while on 29 May 2020. And finally, season 4 was released on 30 October 2020. 

The show follows Phil as he travels to various cities around the world and tries out authentic cuisines from those places.

Due to the show’s popularity, there was no doubt about a fifth season. Fans and foodies alike were thrilled when a fifth season was unofficially announced via a social media post. The exact release date for season 5 is yet to be confirmed but Philip Rosenthal has confirmed that filming for the fifth season is officially complete, as well as a potential sixth season if the network is ready to go forward with it.

Season 5 will have the same outline as the previous season, with Phil traveling and trying out different cuisines, while also following social distancing protocols. He had even mentioned on social media that he was trying out some different diet plans to better his health, so we may get to know more about that as well.

The show follows Phil as he travels to various cities and explores the authentic and cultural cuisines of the particular place. Hew travels with his filming crew which also includes his brother Richard and usually meets up with people he knows in the particular city so they can have a meal that he would have otherwise missed. Season 4 starts with Phil in Rio de Janeiro, a city in brazil with views of mountains all around. Here, he tries various tropical fruits, tapioca pancakes, and cheesy hot pockets on the streets. Phil then meets up with two of his friends at a restaurant to try some traditional fermented sugar cane drinks, bean stew with rice and ends the day with a lovely view of the sunset. In episode 2, we see Phil in San Francisco as he visits the famous Tartine bakery and tries out some delicious-looking desserts that include chocolate croissants, bread pudding with strawberries, and eclairs. He walks down the streets admiring the murals and on the way, grabs a bite to snack on at the popular Dynamo Donut shop. Phil then has a filling meal called a torta, which is a sandwich filled with various things. In the next episode, we make a big jump and follow Phil in Singapore. Here, he meets with a judge from Master Chef Singapore and enjoys some unique dishes like braised duck and rice and soft rice cakes. The airport and architecture shown in this episode are just fantastic and designed.

He ends the night with a boat ride down the waterway while taking in the dazzling lights of the city. In episode 4, we catch up o Phil as he travels along the Mississippi delta to explore the flavourful southern cuisines. In the opening, he is recognized at the famous Peabody Hotel, given a special coat, and allowed to be a part of the ‘duck march’.  He visits some local restaurants and gets a taste of their sauce-covered barbecues, bologna sandwiches, cornish hen and even helps to judge the appetizer section at a men’s cook-off. In the finale, Phil gets a first-hand experience of authentic Poke, which is an authentic seafood dish in Hawaii. While in Honolulu, he also meets a group of rowers who take him out rowing, and then the group goes to a famous hotdog place and gets everything on the menu. Phil also visits the famous place of the ‘pipeline’ wave which attracts surfers from everywhere and has a refreshing meal with them.
