While comedies are often amusing, they can also be morally meaningful and address themes that other categories would avoid. Notwithstanding the genre’s popularity, minorities were never adequately represented in American comedy in the past.

Dolemite Is My Name
Craig Brewer directs Dolemite Is My Name, a 2019 American biographical Hollywood film scripted by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. Eddie Murphy plays director Rudy Ray Moore, who is better remembered for his portrayal of Dolemite in both his stand-up act and a sequence of blaxploitation films that began with Dolemite in 1975.
This is, without a doubt, Murphy’s best and most personalized performance. ‘Dolemite Is My Name’ is a tribute to theatrics and an artist’s natural desire to amuse their viewers. Moore, who operates at a radio station at the beginning of the movie, aspires to reach out to a wider audience. He gets dressed up in gaudy attire, calls himself a Dolemite, and performs ‘The Signifying Monkey,’ an unpolished but still amusing act. Murphy received multiple awards for his performance as Dolemite, including many Best Actor nominations.
