Homestay Recap

Is Homestay Based On A True Story

The plot of the film opens up with a man who wakes up in a hospital mortuary. He was surrounded by several people, who were called ” The Guardian “. The Guardian told him that he is a spirit now in a teenage boy Min, who recently committed suicide. He was given a task that he has to discover the truth behind Min’s death in 100 days or die permanently. He accepted the task and started living the life of Min. He was taken to the home by Min’s mother.

He started to reveal his past. Min had a very complicated family; his mother was an engineer and had an affair, his younger brother hated him and his father had ruined the family’s finances by quitting his job as a university lecturer to pursue a multi-level marketing career selling supplements. He also had only a single best friend Li in his school and had a crush on Pi, his senior who was a topper. He soon realized that Min did not have any good relationships with his family and friends. He told The Guardian that all the people are somehow responsible for Min’s death, but this was not the actual answer for which The Guardian was looking. The spirit was soon left with a few days in 100 days, and he realized that he is unable to reveal the truth.

On his last day, he along with Li was watching the rehearsals of the Card Stunt competition in his school. Li had also submitted one of Min’s old designs and it was identical to the design the spirit has made recently. As the time runs out, the spirit soon realizes that he was actually Min in his previous life, and the suicide was all his fault as he stopped to see the positive things. He told this to The Guardian and he told him that the test was all a trick to make him realize, and now he can live his life fully.
