How I Met Your Mother Season 1 Recap

At the beginning of the series, Ted is a single, 27-years-old architect living with his best friends from his college days: Marshall Eriksen, who is studying law, and Lily Aldrin, who is a kindergarten teacher and aspiring artist. Marshall has been dating lily for almost nine years when he proposes to her. Their engagement causes Ted to consider marriage and finding his soul mate, much to the dismay of his self-proclaimed best friend Barney Stinson, who he met in the restroom at a bar four years earlier.

A serial womanizer, Barney devises elaborate con games to entice women to bed him, only to lose interest in them immediately afterward. Future Ted meets a Canadian reporter named Robin Scherbatsky, with whom he falls in love quickly. Robin is not interested in rushing into a relationship, so they decide to become friends. Ted reveals to Aunt Robin that Robin is not their mother.

The couple meets a Stuart and Claudia’s wedding and Ted starts dating Victoria, whom he meets in Germany as part of a fellowship in pastry making. After returning to the U.S., Ted learns that Robin has feelings for him and tells her he broke up with Victoria.

Ted and Victoria break up and Robin distance herself from Ted after Victoria calls and she answers, thinking it was Ted’s phone. They reconcile and decide to date after Robin mistakes Ted’s phone for her own.
