Queen Sugar is based on a novel written by Natalie Baszille in 2014. It is an American television drama produced and created by Ava DuVernay along with Oprah Winfrey and released on 6 September 2016 and it has 6 seasons and 76 episodes in total with every episode being 35-65 minutes long. It has won two NAACP Awards and 12 nominations in total. this show is rated 7.6/10 on IMDB. Audiences and critics praise the portrayal of universal issues including class, culture, and gender, while specifically focusing on the problems faced by the African-American society.

It focuses on the lives of three siblings in rural Louisiana who are left to deal with the sudden death of their father and decide what will happen to the 800-acre sugarcane farm that he owned. Queen Sugar covers the themes of injustice and inequalities faced by the African Americans from the criminal justice system, it also somewhat covers chattel slavery in American history.

Every character is different and the storyline of each individual feels authentic, that’s what makes the series stand out. The show speaks volumes in terms of culture and the characters have strong traits that are expressed gracefully.

Queen Sugar Season 7 Release Date

Even before the release of the 6th season, an announcement was made that the seventh and final season would premiere in 2022. OWN boss Tiana Perry said in one of the interviews that Queen Sugar is a truly extraordinary series. That was brought to life by Ava’s leadership and her incredible cast and crew.

Till now the release date has not been announced. All we know is that it will be released in 2022. When the writer was asked about how the series will end, she laughed and said, “I will say it’s about envisioning the best path for that end. I didn’t think about how to get to the end, I just know what the end will be”.

42 women have directed the episodes and around 39 made their debut in television directorial on Queen Sugar since its debut.

Queen Sugar Season 6 Finale Recap

In the finale of the season, 6 things seem to finally come together for the Bordelon’s. They might be successful in saving the farm from the takeover. Nova springs into action, while Ralph is days away from signing the farm away to Sam Landry.

In the coming scenes, we see that Hollywood heads out to find Theo while Charley gets Aunt Vi to set up a meeting. After this nova is informed by Dominic that they are planning to turn the farm into a historical landmark as it was approved by the states. Things take an interesting turn as Aunt Vi and Charley meet up with Parker. Towards the ending, as Micah and Isaiah come to an understanding, Dominic and Nova take things to next level. Lastly, we see that Darla goes into labor as Charley reconsiders Davis’ proposal.
