The film has a very twisty ending, which confused some of the audience. In the end, it is shown that J-Squad is killed by Mimics attack. Rita and Omega move to Omega’s location, and they find that Omega is guarded by Alpha. Rita hands over all the grenades to Cage and tries to get Alpha’s attention so that Cage can kill Omega.

Now, Rita is dead as Alpha killed him. While attempting to destroy Omega, Cage gets stabbed in his chest by him and gets injured. Despite his injury, he releases some grenades on Omega and tries to kill him. Then suddenly, a blood transfusion occurs that causes Cage to wake up before he was arrested.

When Cage cleverly releases the grenade and throws it towards Omega, the bomb explodes. A vast explosion ensues in which both Omega and Alpha die. Due to this explosion, a large electricity signal is released, spreading all around, causing all the Mimics to die. Now Omega is dead; all his blood is distributed in the water. Cage is not dead but injured, and he is drowning in the water. At the same time, Omega’s blood goes into Cage’s body, which turns his eyes black and blue. Now, Cage has all Omega’s powers, and he wakes up. It means if he ever dies, then he will be alive again by himself, and all things will start again from the previous day.

Cage gets off a helicopter, and the officer welcomes him. She tells him that we have won today. There are big winning posters on the road. Commanders are holding a press conference inside the building, and they say, this morning, a signal coming out of the Paris killed all the mimics. Aliens are no longer attacking. Then Cage goes to the military base where he saw that J-Squad is also alive and doing a parade. All things are going on as usual. Then Cage goes to meet Rita, and he is still a major. Rita is doing the workout as usual, and she lashes out as soon as she sees Cage because Rita doesn’t like to meet people, and of course, she doesn’t remember anything. Seeing this, Cage laughs, and the film ends.

Time loop concept in the movie:

To understand the time loop concept, firstly, we need to know about Alpha and Omega:

Mimics have a big Alien Omega; this is the leading mind of the Mimics who keeps controlling them. After Omega, Alpha, one of the mimics, is the leader of all the small Mimics. Omega owns all these Alpha, mimics and is the central brain connected to all of them. If someone kills the central brain, Omega, then the rest of Alpha, mimics, will also die.

Time loop concept:

Omega has a power that can control and travel time. When someone kills Alpha, Omega automatically gets a signal that Alpha has died. Then, he reverses that day by 24 hours, but Alpha remembers all the things that how he is going to die. That is how Alpha gets to know every plan of humans, and he wins every time by taking precautions already. When Cage kills Alpha, his blood gets mixed up with Alpha’s blood, which changes Cage’s DNA and becomes Alpha. So whenever Cage dies, the day resets, and everything starts again from the previous day. Only Cage, Alpha, and Omega remember what happened the last day. This loop continues till Cage kills Omega.

How many times did Cage die in the movie?

Like the film’s tagline is “Live, Die, Repeat,” Tome Cruise is doing just that in the movie. His death count on screen is 24 times, but according to the book based on the film, his character dies more than 300 times.
